Eden Compton

Eden Compton is originally from Connecticut and currently divides her time between the Northeast, Florida and the Caribbean where she and her husband live aboard a sailboat. In addition to holding a B.A. in Art History from Colgate University., Eden has studied with Master Pastelists Doug Dawson, Alan Flattman and Lois Wooley. She has also studied photography at the International Center for Photography in New York City. Prior to becoming a full time professional artist, Eden had a successful career in advertising working on major accounts at worldwide agencies in New York. She is also a professionally trained chef with a culinary degree from the French Culinary Institute. Eden is a member of the Connecticut Pastel Society, the CT Portrait Society and a juried member of the Degas Pastel Society; Her work is in private collections across the country. Artistýs Statement: ýThere is an undercurrent, the real life, beneath all appearances everywhere. ý -- Robert Henri ýThe Art Spiritý My initial attraction when selecting a painting subject is always to the people of any particular place I am visiting. I am interested in the unique character of a culture as evidenced and expressed by the daily routines of everyday life. In my figurative work, I try to communicate my impression of that character by capturing a fleeting gesture or attitude or simply a moment in time. I am also drawn to the natural beauty of our environment, as are most artists. In the past year, I have made a concerted effort to paint most, if not all, of my landscapes "en plein air".
