John Asaro
 |
Born in 1937 Asaro has been refining his painting skills for nearly thirty-five years. He began studying formally at the Art Center College of Design, and the Art Students League under Frank Reilly in the late fifties. True Romanticism best describes the work and a clever interplay of light, texture, color and design reflects his keen observation and study of the fundamentals of drawing. There is warmth and sentimentality reminiscent of Monet, Renoir and Whistler. His figures and their interaction with light and the subsequent creation of shadow solicit the viewer to a sense of relaxation. His canvases, like zealous missionaries, speak clearly and colorfully of life, are expressionistic and concise, pragmatic and technically adventurous. Paradoxically, his "romantic realism" invades the art scene like a whiff of orange blossoms, as refreshing and pungent to our senses as the seaside images permeating these paintings. |
