We are pleased to announce our upcoming exhibition featuring two coastal artists, Julia Contacessi and Michele Poirier-Mozzone. The exhibition, which will include brand new collections of original work by both artists, will be on view at Sorelle in Westport, CT from June 4th through June 26th.
An opening reception and Artist Meet & Greet will be held on opening day, June 4th, from 4:30pm - 6:30pm. Light refreshments will be available to event attendees. The reception is free and open to the public.
Julia's newest original paintings experiment with layering and texture - pairing thick coats of paint, exposed natural linen, and gold accents in an and overall soft coastal palette. Michele's paintings are a continuation of her Fractured Light series, which explores the human form as it is immersed or viewed from beneath the surface of water. It captures "broken ribbons of sunlight, fascinating distortions, sounds of rushing bubbles, and the weightless, and the slow dance of movement" that results from this unique interaction between the human form and water.
"This is one of the first exhibitions we've held really showcasing all brand new work by the artists involved," Sorelle Owner, Sandy Pelletier says. "Julia's and Michele's bodies of work are so distinct from one another, but together that element of light is really evident and we wanted to highlight that. Julia's use of metallic accents experiments with light in a much more conceptual and tangible way, while Michele digs deep into the details of the impact of light on the human form, particularly when cast through water. It's a fascinating show and combination of styles, and I'm excited for fans of both artists (and everyone) to see these new collections together."
In 2000, Julia earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Pratt Institute in New York City. Over the years, her eye for composition coupled with her love of painting, design and photography has earned Julia numerous awards in such publications as Photographer's Forum and Creativity along with inclusion into the Yale Robert B. Haas Family Arts Library Special Collections (ALSC) in New Haven, CT.
Based in Massachusetts, Michele Poirier-Mozzone garnered national and international recognition for her work featuring the figure in oil paint or pastel as it is immersed and influenced by water and sunlight. Michele's work has been featured in The Artists’ Network as well as in numerous print publications including International Artist Magazine, Pastel Journal Magazine, Practique des Arts, 2016 & 2018 (France) and Cape Cod Art Magazine. Her paintings are held in private collections across the United States and Europe.
