Artist Statement
Vig's work is about women in nature, deep feelings, thoughts and emotions. The feminine figure in her paintings is embraced by nature, with distinct natural elements included like the ocean, forests, fish, flowers, birds, bugs, leaves, and certain kinds of intuitive "graphisms" such as dots, lines. Her mixed media paintings convey emotion, exude elegance, and a balance between occupied and empty space.
Ultimately, her work is the embodiment of a search for belonging and of who she is. Each composition comes alive with intuitive and spontaneous brush strokes and during the creation process her perspective ensures the essence and deeper meaning.
“Sometimes I think myself as a migratory bird," Mayol says. "I wonder how these birds feel. Why do they travel? What do they leave behind? What do they find on the other side of the horizon? Could it be possible that the immense sky belongs to them? In this infinite scenario I recognize myself, I spread my wings, and I start to paint - capturing fleeting perspectives crossing indefinite skies, small ecosystems of rhythm and color throbbing earthly spaces. Nature as a living example of abundance, with its own cycles and purposes... leaves of grass, flowers and seeds in furtive conversations.
"In the last few years, the subject of the ocean has spread throughout my work. I am floating intuitively among deep blues and bright greens. This series is about transformation, being reborn. There is something sacred about water, and I immerse myself on the rhythms of the tide, its constant movement and its mesmerizing reflections. A deep breath, a pause, connecting with the senses, closing eyes underwater, hearing the silence from the ocean while being aware of being held by the water.“
