Blue Mojito - Original Painting
Description
Original Oil on canvas, 30 x 30 x 1.75 inches - Surface Language collection
Horizontal passes of the palette knife descend the canvas from a pale, cloud-bright band at the top through periwinkle and cornflower into deep cobalt and midnight at the base. Near the center, a run of darker strokes breaks across the surface like a distant shoreline, and a few bright flashes of white interrupt the deep blue below — the glint of light on moving water. The paint is drawn in long, fine striations, so the texture reads as current rather than crest: steady, cool, and endlessly deep. A compact square with real atmosphere, shifting with the light throughout the day. Wired and ready to hang.

Notes From The Artist
Surface Language is a series of richly textured paintings in which the paint itself does the speaking. Working with a palette knife, Guererra lays on thick, luscious layers of color, pulling, stacking, and sculpting the surface until it rises from the canvas in ridges, peaks, and folds. There is no imagery to decode here, only gesture, color, and touch. Each mark records the pressure of the hand and the direction of the knife.
"People often tell me they want to touch these paintings, and I understand the impulse. The texture is the language. Every ridge and peak is a record of a gesture, a decision, a moment of pressure or release. These works don't tell a story so much as hold a feeling — one you understand not by reading, but by looking closely." — Teodora Guererra
