Originally from Ankara, Turkey, Hazal Ozturk lives and works in Upstate New York. Although she holds a Master’s degree in Chemistry, she now works as a software developer by day and an artist by night. Having a multidisciplinary background has informed her body of work in a unique way. Her diverse professional background helps her to see the world from a different perspective and this is reflected in her art.
Hazal's work has been exhibited in galleries in Albany and Saratoga Springs, New York, as well as Lincoln, Nebraska. She serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Albany Center Gallery, a nonprofit art gallery in Albany, NY. In 2019, she was selected as a participating artist for Albany’s "Downtown is Pawsome" public art project. One of her original paintings, “The Universe, 2017,” was included in the set design for Capital Rep Theater‘s show, “Paris Time” from January to February, 2018.
As a fine artist and photographer, Hazal creates abstract paintings using acrylic paint that are then captured as high resolution images and printed; she also employs a variety of techniques in her photography, sometimes using digital imaging to fully abstract her photographs, other times using a drone to capture aerial images of different types of terrain.
While Hazal's work is done using different tools, it is unified by color palette and subject matter. She often draws on nature for inspiration and uses bright colors to evoke a sense of whimsy and exploration. As a self-taught artist, she sees her work as an evolution, communicating this process as a means of finding inner peace for both artist and viewer.
Hazal's work is available as fine art prints, with custom material and framing options. To see all of Hazal's work and read her Artist Statement, click here.
