This past week, the Pantone Color Institute announced the 2022 Color of the Year. It's just one color this year - unlike last year's dual selection of a mid-toned grey and bright yellow. The color is PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri - a new creation that combines the classic likability of blue, but with a warm, violet-red undertone.

Very Peri, the Institute said in a statement, is a reflection of the transformation we're seeing globally, but which is innately accompanied by innovation and creativity. The color embodies the hopefulness of those qualities.

"Very Peri displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages creativity and imaginative expressions," Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, said of the choice.

The Institute's Vice President similarly emphasized the color's evocation of opportunity in the context of a complicated modern environment, saying, "As society continues to recognize color as a critical form of communication, and a way to express and affect ideas and emotions and engage and connect, the complexity of this new red violet-infused blue hue highlights the expansive possibilities that lay before us."

In reference to home decor, the Institute suggested that Very Peri can provide "a pop of color" in almost any application. Referred to as "playful," "fresh," and "animating," one can make a creative statement by using it in something larger like a wall color, or incorporating it as an accent in a pattern for added visual appeal.

In a similar fashion to last year, Pantone partnered with ARTECHOUSE NYC to reveal and feature the color in an immersive digital exhibition, which will open to the public in the new year.

The Pantone Color of the Year is selected annually by the Pantone Color Institute, and takes into account varying industries, trends, and events which have influenced or shaped modern society. It very often plays a pivotal role in a wide variety of design-related industries like fashion, graphics, products, interiors, cosmetics, and more. At Sorelle, we always love and appreciate the Color of the Year and 2022 is no exception. Very Peri, while a versatile blue, is anything but cold. It's warm, youthful, and inviting, and we feel all sorts of inspired in its presence. It's familiar, but has a big personality - something that's often difficult to accomplish but that has great and positive meaning in our current environment.

Check out our highlights from Sorelle's collection below, which all feature some variation of the 2022 Color of the Year.
